Programs - Community BasedTraditional ProgramIn our traditional program, volunteers and children spend a few hours together each week (we ask for an average of ten hours per month) playing, riding bikes, shooting hoops, working on homework, washing the car, flying kites, or simply enjoying an afternoon goofing off. While most of the kids in our traditional program are simply typical kids in need of a grown-up friend, there are some special options for volunteers who have a desire to work in specific areas, like at the Boys & Girls Club in Lee County or the YMCA in Marco Island Couples MatchMarried couples are matched with either a Little Brother and/or a Little Sister. This avenue of involvement allows even the busiest volunteers to be involved by adding flexibility regarding scheduling and time commitment. This program offers the added bonus of allowing the children to experience a healthy relationship between two adults.
Sports BuddiesBig Brothers are matched one-to-one with a child (age 5-15) as “Sports Buddies” to experience an assortment of participatory and spectator sports. The program provides an opportunity for building friendships between adult volunteers and kids, and provides a foundation for modeling good sportsmanship. Two activities are scheduled each month for a six-month time period. Big Brothers Big Sisters provides tickets to spectator sports, which have been generously donated by various teams that play in
