Programs - Community Based

Traditional Program

Our Community-Based program works by matching children ages 5-17 with a caring adult.  Activities might include going to the park, mini-golfing, bowling, biking, going to a play, taking a walk, working on homework, washing a car, going to the Zoo, visiting a wildlife refuge, or simply just spending time together.

Couples Match

Couples can be matched with a Little Brother. This avenue of involvement allows even the busiest volunteers to be mentors by adding flexibility in scheduling and time commitment. This program offers the added bonus of allowing the children to experience a healthy relationship between two adults.

Sports Buddies

Big Brothers are matched one-to-one with a Little Brother (age 5-15) as “Sports Buddies” to experience an assortment of participatory and spectator sports. The program provides an opportunity for building friendships between adult volunteers and children, and provides a foundation for modeling good sportsmanship. Two activities are scheduled each month for a six-month period.  Big Brothers Big Sisters provides tickets to spectator sports, which have been generously donated by various teams who play in Southwest Florida.
