To become a mentor you will need to:
· Complete Collier County School Volunteer Application on-line (by clicking the link below): www.collier.k12.fl.us/about/communityinvolvement.asp
· Schedule fingerprinting on-line (by clicking the link below): https://www.collierschools.com/hr/meetings/nav/joboffer.aspx · Complete Bigs-In-Schools inquiry information on-line by clicking the "Click Here!" link at the top of the page.
· Complete an in-person interview with a case manager
· Provide references from school personnel, clergy, employer, etc.
· Complete parent permission form (high school students only)
· Complete a minimum of 12 hours of mentoring per school year
As a mentor you can expect to:
· Work one-to-one with a child
· Work on reading and math skills
· Develop a relationship with your “Little”
· Play educational games
· Consult with your case manager on how to work with your “Little” to further develop skills
· Meet with your case manager on-site, once a month
· Be rewarded with SMILES
· Be enhanced by the knowledge that you have changed the life of a childChildren are referred to the BIGS In Schools Program (BISS) by teachers, guidance counselors and parents. Children needing extra help with math and reading skills, but do not qualify for special programs are referred to Big Brothers Big Sisters of SW Florida for assistance. The children are interviewed and matched with mentors that can best help them improve their academic and social skills. · Complete Community Based inquiry information on-line by clicking the "Click Here!" link at the top of the page. · Complete an in-person interview with a case manager
